  1. Maltese Folk tales

The tales written by Ruben Zahra focus on both children and people. Some stories such as 'Gahan & the Statue', 'The Enchanted Songbird', 'Dragon Draganti' and 'The Giant & the Shoemaker' mainly focus on children. Other stories like 'The king who Grew a Horn on his head', 'The Old Man buried in the Cave', 'Spin, Spin the Bobbin' and 'Black figs White figs' mainly focus on people. Each story has a moral which motivates us towards the right path of life. One story, The Three Sisters and the fig tree is focussed on both children and people which gives us the moral that we should never misuse a thing. All these stories are beautifully depicted by the authors. They have used simple and lucid language with good words which can be understood by all including children. It also helps them to enhance their vocabulary skills and helps them to use new words while framing sentences. It was a good experience reading this book and all the stories were very interesting to read and the authors have maintained the interest of readers in all these tales.

Though I loved reading all the tales, I liked the story - 'The Giant and the Shoemaker' the most. This story describes an intelligent shoemaker who was once challenged by a giant but with his wit and wisdom, he managed to tackle all the situations very effectively and successfully. The story gives us the moral that every problem has a solution, we only need to use our wit and intelligence to solve it. In the end, I would like to say that I would like to recommend this book to all my colleagues, relatives and neighbours because the authors have not only depicted these tales beautifully with attractive illustrations, but the interest of the readers has also been maintained throughout. Moreover, each story besides giving us joy also gives us moral and thus it will be a pleasure to share these stories among everyone.

  3. MY MOTHER
    I cannot remember my mother,
    Only when under the trees,
Sitting lonely and gazing the trees.
A song hovers at this time,
Which my mother used to sing all the time.
    I cannot remember my mother,
    Only in my playtime ,
She used to scream and says,
“come back my child ,its already nine.”
I cannot remember my mother ,
    Only in my dreams,
    When she comes and says,
    “when you miss me,
Remember the day when you kissed me.

  4. I, Paridhi Puri, made a poem gallery in summer vacations. Here is a glimpse....
    1)TIME
    Hurry! It’s already nine,
You have got to reach the station in time.
You are always late wherever you go,
You’ll miss the train if you are slow.
Time is important don’t you know,
Let me tell you why it is so.

There is a time for arrival and departure of planes,
There is a time for coming and going of trains.
There’s a time for TV programs to relay,
There’s a time for radio music to play.
If all this did not work in time,
    Nothing ever would be found.
    There would be chaos everywhere,
Both on the ground and in the air.
O if you want the confusion to end,
Learn the value of time my friend!

    2)“THE OLD MAN”
He wrote his books in old armchair,
He believed he could predict the future.
All his family would he then scare,
Except his wife who sat near the sculpture.
In older times he was slow,
But in childhood he was faster.
He could still write in a flow,
Of his skill he was a master.
But now he lives mo more,
    Family’s eyes are still sore.
    The armchair now remains empty,
But they believed he could still write plenty.
He has finished his life span,
But the armchair still remembers “THE OLD MAN”.

  8. Words have power
The thing which is going in our mind usually becomes our words and they direct us in our life. Words are very powerful. They can make and break the relations. A kind word is always better than alms followed by injury. We should never be proud of ourselves. In pride and ego we lose our temper and say that comes in our mind. Watching our words before speaking should be a habit as they have immense power of healing or hurting others. A wise and skillful speech is always better than a kind speech. We should never be rude to anyone as our tongues effect our ears, our ears effects our souls and our souls effects the entire body.

  10. I have a small cute brother and we may just often have fights, he(my brother) is the one who drains his anger out the most on me, and in the end is still the one who weeps the most. It seems to be a kind of strategy he has developed. Not necessary that the case with most learners present here is the same, but there are many I know with whom I share this case. So, one day after a small fight I just sat in my room and closed it, and this is what I came up with.
    Poem- Two Brothers
    A difference of years eight,
is between me and my brother's age.
He, always, took the advantage of being small,
And I, sometimes, took the advantage of being tall.
A lot of small quarrels took place between both of us,
But small fights always make the relation grow even fonder,
    as I have experienced.
So I say don't be too frustrated of your small brothers ,
As they are all so good,
    Just need to be understood.
    THANK YOU!

  11. I , Paridhi puri wrote reviews of a popular children book series –REPLICA written by Marilyn Kaye
Replica is a children's science fiction series about Amy Candler, a young teenager who discovers she is one of thirteen cloned girls who have been genetically modified to have superhuman abilities. She was created in the government-funded Project Crescent, and was kidnapped and adopted by one of the scientists after a change of heart. Throughout the series Amy struggles to live a normal life as the mysterious Organization tries to use her and the other Project Crescent clones to create a master race and take over the world. Amy also seeks to help the other clones in the project, and encounters a number of other children and teenagers with genetic modifications or supernatural powers.

    1) Another Amy-Another clone comes to Amy's school to film a movie, and is horrified by Amy's insistence that they are clones. Over time, Amy begins to realize that this clone is very unlike Amy - she is evil. .

    2) Virtual Amy: After Andy mysteriously disappears after giving her a warning, Amy becomes worried by a new virtual reality computer game called dark falls which can be dangerous for her.
    .
    3) Mystery Mother: Amy has always been satisfied that her mother loves her, even though they are not genetically related. However, when a woman claims to be Amy's birth mother, and accuses Nancy of kidnap, Amy begins to wonder if she really is a clone. :

    4) Ice Cold Amy fears her secret will be revealed to the world after her worst enemy Jeanine discovers that Amy is a clone and begins blackmailing her. However, Jeanine ends up in a coma, making Amy the main suspect
    5) Lucky Thirteen: Amy meets Aly, another clone who was rejected by the project because of her lack of special abilities. Aly encourages Amy to act out, but Aly's desire to live up to Amy's perfection leads her into trouble. Eventually, Amy is forced to break contact. .

    6) The Substitute: Amy is at risk after the death of her mysterious ally, Mr. Devon. Amy suspects that the cruel new teacher at school, Ms Heartshorn, is there to kidnap her, but the truth is not what she expected.

    7) The Beginning: A trip to Washington DC, home of Project Crescent, puts Amy on edge. Meanwhile, Amy's mother remembers the origins of the project, including the pain of losing her brother to a genetic disorder and the betrayal which puts Amy at risk in the modern day which turns out very dangerous for her and her mother.

    8) Missing Pieces: Amy becomes suspicious when her fellow students start losing their most prized abilities, such as a sprinter losing his running ability and a basketball player forgetting how to throw. Meanwhile, Eric has begun High School and has little time for Amy any more, leading her to become friend with newcomer Chris.

    9) Return of the Perfect Girls: Thinking she is headed on a cruise with her new friend Chris, Amy is kidnapped by the organization and taken to a desert island. There, she must compete with the other Amys and Andys in a Survivor-style competition, in which those voted off face death .She faces many difficulties to save her and the other clones from the organization.

    10) Transformation: When Tasha and Amy's other classmates begin to act like zombies, Amy suspects they have been influenced by the new TV show, Cherry Lane. The more she gets into the case the more it becomes difficult for her.

    11) Like Father, Like Son: After Chris's absent father returns asking for a bone marrow transplant, Amy suspects that Chris and many of her other classmates are clones intended as organ donors for the wealthy.

  12. We, the humans, always want to know more. We want to discover, carve out secrets from the nature, we tear the nature apart to see what information lies inside, we disturb the nature and the animals. We even disturb ourselves.............. What is the use of that information which we can't implement, just store in our minds until they slowly fade away. Hence here is a poem, 'Philosophy of Humans', by me.

    There was a time,
    an old time,
    When we weren't there,
But there was existence of life,
we just added a specie to it.
To be a boon, we were, humans,
Always so curious to know about ourselves,
but more than that, the world.
Our thirst to keep knowing, discovering,
Gave us too much information to remember,
    Too much knowledge to implement,
    It's no use then;
Why not leave those mysteries a sweet secret,
Which are to be unfolded by disturbing others, and gain us just information, not knowledge,
There is a difference between both...........
Because I think mysteries are more interesting than certainties .........!

  13. HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY TO ALL. I HAVE WRITTEN FOUR LINES ON FRIEND-

IF YOU ARE A DIAMOND THEN YOU ARE THE BRIGHTEST,
IF YOU ARE GOD THEN I AM MOST BLESSED,
BUT BETTER THAN ALL THESE YOU ARE A GREAT FRIEND,
AND THAT IS WHY YOU ARE THE BEST.

  16. “BEAUTY IS ONLY SKIN DEEP”
A beautiful person may have an ugly heart or soul. Don’t be led by the exterior. Give more attention to what lies beneath the skin. A person may not be beautiful or attractive but may have a beautiful heart or soul. It’s like the saying – Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, there is no guarantee that the inside story or article may be good as the cover. Physical beauty is no guide to person’s real character. TRUE BEAUTY IS WITHIN OUR HEART, PHYSICAL BEAUTY IS MERELY SUPERFICIAL!!!!!!

  20. “Examination dilemma”
    Bell rang, English examination began,
Hither and thither my thoughts ran
Question no. 1 Write a poem on any topic,
I began to grow my poetry phobic.
I scanned my brain for topic to write on,
But I was quick to realize that my wits were gone.
Write on nature’s beauty I thought,
    Write all sorts of topics,
    My brain was distraught.
Should I write on sorrows of life,
Or should I write about the great man and his wife.
Or about the comedy film I saw last night,
Or about Mt.Everest with it is great height.
Should the poem be one which creates fright,
Or the story of a man who lost his sight.
Use, use your gray matter my child,
I heard the invigilator’s voice so mild.
Just then I looked at the time,
As I cared to listen, my wrist watch chime.
Just 5 minutes left, I had not begun yet,
My eyes were moist and my cheeks wet.
0 in the exam, Oh! What a shame!
I thought my imagination was only to blame.
Then the bell rang and paper was taken,
I had written a poem when I was awoken!

  22. “If I were a fairy”
    Oh! I wish I were a fairy,
So that I could make people merry.
The world in reality lives on practicalities,
    With no room for fantasy.
    The people would giggle,
    And people would chuckle.
“ A fairy it is a silly thing to be,
It’s behind the time, don’t you see”
I would not fancy for a magic wand,
Nor the luxuries of a fantasy land.
Only enough powers to help the needy,
For I am generous and not greedy.
To teach people to rise above cast, colour and creed,
    Is my only need.
    Why do we not understand,
“Divided we fall, united we stand”
In childhood this we were taught,
    But still we have fought.
Sometimes as revolts, sometimes as wars,
But WARS always leave ugly scars,
End up disastrous for world of ours.
Living in harmony gives us peace of mind,
It is good not only for you and me,
    But for whole mankind.
Or yet if I am not a fairy,
    Or something of that sort,
    I am a human,
    The greatest creation of god.
And can be presage of peace,
With a pen which is actually,
    “Mightier than Sword”
We all can help, yes, each one,
If love and peace be really our slogan,
We will bring smile on every face,
And earth would be a happier place…..
